It is possible to touch software?

A few days ago I got an e-mail with a link to the Project Looking Glass of Sun. The video shows the result of the project on the Sun Network in San Francisco in 2003. So, it is a little bit old. The target of the project is to develop a 3D user interface for a desktop. On the desktop you can open a browser window and see the web page. Further, you can turn the window and create a note on the back side of the window. Another example is, that you open a video window, turn it to the right and the video will runs in a small preview pane at the bottom of the desktop. Furthermore you can open a library of CDs and turn it around the axis. And then, if you can ‘reach into’ the desktop with your (virtual) hand, you can touch the browser window or the virtual notepad. This is not possible, but if this will be possible, then you will get another feeling about software.
